The state of the Casa do Guarda
The Casa do Guarda is in a concerning state of degradation. The passage of storm Kristin has worsened existing vulnerabilities, making its recovery even more urgent. The images on this page show the current reality and explain why it is necessary to act now.
A situation that demands an urgent response
The Casa do Guarda is currently in a concerning state of degradation. The passage of time, lack of use, and absence of structural interventions have caused a process of progressive deterioration, exacerbated by the passage of storm Kristin.
Today, problems with the roof, leaks, degradation of construction elements, and other vulnerabilities are visible, putting the conservation of this heritage at risk.
Why is it important to act now?
Without timely intervention, degradation will continue to accelerate, increasing recovery costs and potentially compromising irreversibly a building of high historical, heritage, and identity value for the parish of Ota.
Each passing month represents more damage, higher costs, and an increased risk of losing this heritage.
Our commitment
The operation Guarda à Casa! was born to reverse this process. The first objective is to stabilize and recover the Casa do Guarda, preserving its identity and preparing it to once again serve the community as a space for accommodation, exhibition, and support for the enhancement of the Serra de Ota.
The images presented on this page document the current state of the Casa and help to understand the urgency of this mission.
